Construction of the Organ

Materials


According to a tradition in use for several centuries, proven materials were used such as:
- cast tin and lead sheets
- various woods, adapted to the requirements of use: oak (17 or 27 years of drying), pine, Red Cedar, yellow pine, cherry, ebony, rosewood
- kid, lamb and calf skins, treated by traditional chrome-free tanning
- various materials: leather, felt, steel, brass, bone, porcelain, bichromated or stainless steel screws
For some equipment, products from contemporary technologies have also been used: memory foam, for example.


Assembly


Some assembly phases, in March 2000 at the church of Charbonnières-les-Bains…


Phase 1:

Structure of the base and installation of the soundboard of the great organ.


Phase 2:

Installing the console.

- 2 keyboards
- abbreviation of pedalboard
- drawbars and coupling
- controls of the 2 tremulants
- expression pedal.


Phase 3:

Interior equipment of the base.

- transmission of notes by rods
- transmission of game draws
- fan motor unit in soundproof box with regulator and trembling on each windshield


Phase 4:

Basement completed.


Phase 5:

Assembly of the high buffet and the structure of the expressive box.


Phase 6:

Completion of the buffet, before installation of the Montre pipes on the facade.


Phase 7:

Harmonization (fine sound adjustment) of all pipes, one by one.
